Baton Rouge's consolidated city-parish Inspection & Permits division prices residential permits by area — $0.80 per square foot plus $125
with $125 minimums for new homes and $250 for remodels and additions — and commercial permits by valuation on a chained ladder: $5 per $1,000 to $100,000, $500 + $4 per $1,000 to $500,000, then $2,100 + $1.50 per $1,000. Commercial plan review is a second valuation table ($3 per $1,000, then $1,500 + $0.50). Trade permits are a flat $125 residential and $125–$600 commercial by valuation, and a $25 technology fee rides every permit.

What is specific to Baton Rouge
Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish operate as one government — the City-Parish — so one fee schedule covers everything inside the parish except the parishes' newer municipalities (Central, Zachary, and the city of St. George incorporated in 2024 with its own permit office). The Department of Development's Inspection & Permits division runs permitting from downtown; the Baton Rouge Fire Department keeps its own fee lines (fire alarm acceptance, sprinkler acceptance, hood suppression) on the same schedule at $150 each.
Every per-$1,000 rate on the schedule prorates — none prints 'or fraction thereof' — so a $150,000 commercial permit is exactly $700.00, not a rounded band.
